Nepal Student Union is one of the major student political wings in Nepal. The Nepal Student Union represents the Nepali Congress, currently the largest party in Nepal. During the autocratic rule (Panchayati Byawastha), the union played a major role in unifying students to establish democracy in the country
The organization was formed during the autocratic Panchayat era. It was formed in March 1970 in Kathmandu by Bipin Koirala, Marshall Julum Shakya, and current politicians Arjun Narasingha K.C. and Sher Bahadur Deuba. The first major student movement was held in 1979 for the sake of Free Student Union and for the restoration of Democracy in Nepal. The first president of the Nepal student union was Bipin Koirala in 1970. In the year 1971, Sher Bahadur Deuba became the second president of the Nepal student union.
One of the leaders of the Jayatu Sanskitam student movement Pandit Ram Prasad Neupane received felicitation for his work towards bring democracy in Nepal. The Jayantu Sanskritam rebellion was considered the most significant and the first student rebellion of Nepal. The role of the students was to create awareness among the people and to spread consciousness as the beginning of democracy.
